With her latest release “Rocky”, Lexxi Meshan isn’t just making noise — she’s making a statement. We sat down with the rising star to talk about her journey, the meaning behind the music, and why this is just the beginning.
Are visuals coming for “Rocky”?
–Yes — and they’re big. Think short film meets music video. We taking it back to the early 2000s with this one. Stay tuned.
Do you feel pressure to chase trends or stick to your sound?
-Nah. My sound is me. If it’s trendy, cool. If it’s not, even better. I am well aware everyone isn’t going to like my sound, and that’s fine. The fans that do- Love it.
What sets you apart from other female rappers in 2025?
–Nothing against any female rapper that, because there’s so many of them that I adore, but I don’t rap for validation or shock value. I rap because I’m good at it and I have something real to say.
From Struggles to Triumph: The Birth of “Rocky”
For Lexxi, Rocky is more than just a song—it’s a reflection of a hard time in her life that she turned into fuel for something bigger. “Honestly, it came from a past time in my life where I was going through a tough space. I was dealing with a lot and wanted to make something that reminded me — and everybody listening — that quitting isn’t an option,” she shares. “I wanted a way to encapsulate the ambition I had at the time.”
However, despite the gritty nature of the song, she’s quick to clarify that the lifestyle depicted in Rocky is no longer the path she’s walking. “I don’t condone that lifestyle anymore,” she says. “But it was important for me to share that energy, that fight.”
Why “Rocky”? The Underdog Energy
When asked about the title of the track, Lexxi reveals that it was a direct homage to the famous movie Rocky, symbolizing the fight to stay standing no matter how many times life knocks you down. “Like the movie, it represents fighting through the rounds of life, no matter how beat up you get,” she explains. “I’ve always related to that underdog energy. It’s about pushing through the tough times and never giving up.”
A Song That Connects Deeply With Listeners
Though she knew Rocky would be honest and personal, Lexxi admits she didn’t expect it to resonate so deeply with her audience. “I knew it was honest,” she says, “but seeing people loving it, the radio stations spinning it, and the buzz online — that’s powerful. It means a lot to me.”
The confidence that Lexxi brings to this track is undeniable. She doesn’t hold back, and it shows. “I was more aggressive, more unapologetic with it,” she says about her approach to the song. “This was like me letting go of fear in real time. A lot of my past music was censored because I was scared of judgment from my family or close ones. That’s over now. I’m saying exactly what I want.”
The Confidence To Be Real
Confidence is something Lexxi has had to build over time, and you can hear that evolution on Rocky. “It’s both natural and built,” she admits. “I had to earn that confidence in myself. That’s why it sounds so real — because I’ve been through it.”
It’s this authenticity that sets Lexxi apart from many in the industry today. She’s not about keeping up with trends or shock value—she’s about telling her story. “I don’t rap for validation,” she says. “I rap because I’m good at it and have something real to say.”
How do you stay grounded while chasing success?
-Memories. I’ve been to the lowest pits of hell. I’ve been beyond rock bottom- then did everything I could to pull myself back up- and MADE IT. Every time I even think about slowing down, I can’t. Because that time period pops in my mind and I’m like, “Oh hell no! Never again!” Also, Faith. And remembering who I am without music.
You’ve been independent for a while. Is that by choice?
-100%. I like moving on my terms. Plus, I went to college for music business. I’ve spent well over ten thousand hours with this, and I’m built for it. But I’m open to the right partnerships.
Do you have a dream collaboration?
Don Trip, Doechii or J. Cole. That balance of lyricism and soul speaks to me.
What’s the hardest part about being an independent artist right now?
–Doing everything yourself. You wear 20 hats before the music even drops. Oh and you can forget about having extra slush-fund money.
And the best part?
–Freedom. Creative freedom. I get to create without compromising my vision.
You seem very intentional with your brand. How important is image to you?
–Very. Not in a shallow way though. Image is storytelling too. I want to be remembered for how I made people feel, not just how I looked.
